Ellie Liu

Program Manager/Co-Founder

Ellie Liu, 15, is a sophomore at Westview High School and has been studying cello since the age of six under the guidance of Ms. Hyun-Jin Kim.

As an active soloist, Ellie has performed with the Jewish Community Orchestra, the Amadeus Chamber Quintet, and the Willamette Falls Symphony after winning their respective concerto competitions. Most recently, she received the Gold Medal at the Bellevue Symphony Concerto Competition in Washington State. She is also a winner of the Metro Young Artist Competition, the second-place winner in the Oregon Mozart Players Young Artist Competition (2024), and an Honorable Mention recipient at the Eugene Symphony Young Artist Competition (2025). Additionally, she earned Honorable Mention in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Junior Division in both 2023 and 2024.

Ellie is a dedicated member of the Portland Youth Philharmonic and Camerata PYP, where she currently serves as Co-Principal Cellist. She has also performed with the All-State Orchestra and served as Assistant Principal Cellist in the NAfME All-Northwest Orchestra in 2025.

During the summer, Ellie attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Orchestra with a merit scholarship, where she was selected for masterclasses and served as Principal Cellist.
